The Ameraucana's wing feathers are coming in nicely. The striping is beautiful, but will sadly fade when she is an adult. She's also developing tail feathers and some along her shoulders.
The Australorp is next in development. Her wings still have a bit more down, and her tail feathers are shorter and more sparse. No shoulder feathers yet.
The Rhode Island Red, despite being the most precocious, is clearly the youngest.
How did you decide on the breeds of chickens?
ReplyDeleteI wanted chickens that are bred to be very good egg layers, but are also large enough that there's meat on their bones when it comes time to butcher. Then I compared my list of potentials with what Pollinate, the local urban farm store, was getting in this spring/summer. I decided to get all different breeds just to enjoy watching the differences in their behavior and temperaments, and be able to tell them apart easily.
